Centre Advises Entrepreneurs On Business Ideas

An entrepreneurial development firm, Masterpiece Resource Development Centre, has advocated a change in the mindset of entrepreneurs and harnessing of the country’s resources for wealth creation.
Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, the President, Young Entrepreneurs Network, Uche Nwosu, noted that developed economies all over the world grew as a result of 80 per cent contribution of enterprises.
He lamented that 75 per cent of the country’s revenue in 2013 was spent on the trading and recurrent expenditure, with limited amount allotted to entrepreneurial development.
He said that the expatriates from China, India, the United States and Europe, who came into the country in large numbers, had seen the massive wealth and untapped resources that existed in Nigeria.
Highlighting the resources in the country, he said, “Africa has over 1.1bn in population, 75 per cent of this population are below the age of 39 years. We have the most arable land in the world and the existing multinationals are churning out excess of $1bn per annum.”
In addition, the Chairman, MRDC, Mr. Abiola Popoola, advised young Nigerians to be enterprising and creative in order to earn a living because jobs no longer exist for graduates.
He said, “The business of developing our youths is on all of us. The pains of paid employment are strong and the young people have to be enterprising, innovative and creative in making the best use of their God-given talents.
“The first place to start with is the discovery of their talents and then helping them develop their talents. They can then deploy their talents for their benefits and that of the society.”
In view of this, the Chief Resource Officer, MRDC, Mrs. Modupe Oyekunle, said that the organisation had been committed to capacity building and in-training of young people because there were no jobs for the young population.
She said, “There is a need for continuous development which led to the creation of the Young Entrepreneurial Network. It is important for us as young people who are in business to switch on the light in every area that needs change.
According to her, the 6th edition of the Yen Conference holding in Lagos will feature the plenary session, stakeholders’ panellist session, the exhibition, networking session as well as raffle draw.
Oyekunle added that notable speakers at the event are the Managing Director, PR Africa International, Mr. Dapo Adelegan; the Publisher, Today’s Woman Magazine, Mrs. Adesuwa Onyenokwe; the CEO, Vconnect, Mr. Deepankar Rustagi, the General Manager, African Lucozade Ribena Suntory, Mr. Chidi Okoro; the founder, Sam N Sara, Mrs. Folake Oyemade; the CEO, Heritek Support Services, Mr. Tope Popoola, among others.
