I have a few things I belief in. One is Nigeria. In spite of the dismal point we’re at as a nation at the moment, I’m still a strong believer that things can turn around and I’ve decided to be a major player in my own small sphere of influence in that turn around. Secondly I believe in women advancement. Hope you heard me well? I didn’t say women liberation. I said advancement. Women don’t need liberation, liberation from what? We are already liberated. Any limitation is just a wrong mindset and it’s subject to change when change is desired. What we are seeking is advancement.
In my search for opportunities for female advancement I stumbled on an amazing woman doing great things.
In many circles she actually needs no introduction, but for the purpose of our larger audience, she is Aisha Yusuf, CEO of Emirati Innovative Services. A graduate of Chemistry from the University of Maiduguri, she later went to Vandean College Brighton, UK where she got an IT Certification. She is married with 3 kids.
She started her working career with Abuja Investment Company Limited and then Abuja Leasing Company Limited for a combined period of 10 years. She later resigned to set up her own company 5 years ago. She is currently a Board Member at the NYSC Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on youth empowerment and poverty alleviation for Corp members.
Emirati Innovative Services is in the business of Fashion and Beauty. A label that makes affordable yet fashionable and durable ready to wear as well as bespoke outfits for women. She has held the position of Assistant National Treasurer of FADAN (Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria, Abuja Chapter) for a period of 2 years.
The Emirati group is also into Event Management. They organize quarterly events called Emirati Shopping & Fashion Fair where various vendors come together to showcase, market & sell their goods and services in a comfortable and conducive atmosphere. They have mastered the art of bridging the gap between buyers and sellers, making it easier & accessible to the general public. Their events are attended by different business owners, start-ups, successful and upcoming entrepreneurs, that find it very profitable for their businesses.
What drives her;
As a result of the huge number of failing and failed women owned businesses, she set up the Emirati Women’s Entrepreneurs Network (EWEN). This initiative aims to give valuable assistance to new and growing female entrepreneurs. These seminars include skills acquisition training programmes for women that intend to start their own business but lack the necessary resources. They also provide mentorship and life coaching to women in need of financial or legal assistance by applying to the relevant organizations. She is a firm believer in women coming together to assist one another to prosper in their various fields of business. In her own words, “when women come together, great things happen.”
The first seminar which held in April, 2018 witnessed a huge turn-out of female entrepreneurs looking to open and expand their businesses. Attractions included lectures, exhibitions, promos and discounts on exhibited products. EWEN seminars will be held quarterly with the mission of helping women realise their dreams of becoming successful self reliant business owners.
What more can I say? This is definitely a woman to watch out for. She’s not only going somewhere to happen she’s taking a lot of women along with her. If you are like her and like me and believe strongly in the advancement of women then join this train. Be a major player, make things happen. It’s time women STOP begging for space to function, it’s time to TAKE it! Be a voice. Stronger together! Naija4life.
The next edition of The Emirati Women Entrepreneurs Network is on Saturday the 14th of July, 2018. It is open to all women and promises to be an educative and beneficial seminar. Registration is currently on going.
