SMEs Support Will End Unemployment – Ahmed

The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, has said that entrepreneurship development will provide an efficient strategy to address unemployment, especially youth and graduate joblessness in the country.
He stated that the Kwara’s Next Entrepreneur Scheme, introduced recently by his administration, which provided up to N10m microcredit for each small and medium scale business, is to promote youth employment in the state’s private sector.
He spoke on Saturday in Oke-Ode, Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.
He said the existing microcredit window created by his administration would continue to provide critical funds to small business owners to grow their businesses.
Ahmed said, “We intend to stimulate greater investment inflow through our forthcoming projects such as an Independent Power Project and major infrastructure across the length and breadth of the state. Indeed, my administration remains committed to ensuring the equitable distribution of projects across the state.
“It is our expectation that these projects will stimulate economic activities as well as provide thousands of jobs for youths.”
Meanwhile, Ahmed has appointed the Dean of the School of Business and Governance, Kwara State University, Malete, Dr. Muritala Awodun, as the pioneer executive chairman of the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service.
He also appointed Dr. Isaac Gbenle as the new Director of Field Operation, Processes and Research of the KWIRS.
A statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Dr. Muyideen Akorede, said the appointments were made following a rigorous selection and interview process to ensure that only the best candidates were appointed in view of the strategic importance of the KWIRS.
Awodun, until his appointment according to Akorede, was also the founding Director of KWASU Centre for Entrepreneurship 2009-2014 and the founding Head of the Department of Management Sciences of the university.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics, a Master of Science degree in Economics, and a Ph.D in International Business.
He is also a fellow of the Institute of Entrepreneurs, Nigeria, and the Institute of Direct Marketing of Nigeria and is an alumnus of the prestigious Harvard Business School Executive Education Programme and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Gbenle had reportedly directed and managed IT strategic and operational planning, and established appropriate governance structures, frameworks and tools that supported the business needs of several organisations.
